Kenny Scharf

Pop Surrealism

Kenny Scharf is an American painter and iconic street artist with inimitable graffiti paintings. He coined the term Pop Surrealism, back in the 80s where he was a poster for blurring the lines as he takes from pop culture and animation. Kenny was shaped a lot by the cartoon era he was born into this barrage of imagery and helped sculpt his style.

The used masterpiece.

When he’s not creating the painting from scratch, Kenny often grabs thrift store paintings and collaborates on them. Sometimes it’s the frame he likes, or just the schlock value, and will throw his cartoon style on top and birth a masterpiece you wouldn’t expect. Since old paintings weren’t enough, Kenny even does this on people’s cars...
